About the University

:University Establishment

The university was established on 12 Jumada II 1429 AH, corresponding to June 16, 2008, by virtue of Presidential Decree No. (119) of 2008, as the ninth public university in the Republic of Yemen. It commenced its educational and research activities as an independent university in the academic year 2011/2012. The establishment of the university was a necessary response to the needs of the community in Hajjah Governorate, a region characterized by high population density and a vast area encompassing 31 sprawling districts. Its purpose extends beyond the governorate itself, aiming to serve all governorates of the Republic of Yemen by providing highly qualified and specialized graduates who meet societal needs. The initial steps towards establishing the university began with the College of Education in Hajjah, which opened in 1989/1990, and the College of Education in Abs, which opened in 2002/2003. These colleges were affiliated with Sana'a University until 2007, and then with Amran University until the 2010/2011 academic year. The two colleges, along with the College of Financial and Banking Sciences, which was established in the first academic year, joined the University of Hajjah. The university began operating as an independent institution in 2011/2012. These three colleges formed the foundation of the university, initially comprising the College of Education in Hajjah, the College of Education in Abs, and the College of .Financial and Banking Sciences

:University Development

Since its inception in the 2010/2011 academic year, the university has witnessed a surge in enrollment from students in Hajjah Governorate and neighboring governorates. This fulfilled the long-held dream of the governorate's residents to establish a university that would meet their aspirations for university education and training in various scientific disciplines. The establishment of the university became essential to meet the needs of the job market in diverse fields. Hajjah University was officially opened in the 2010/2011 academic year as an independent entity with the inauguration of the College of Financial and Banking Sciences in Abs, in addition to the College of Education and Applied Sciences in Hajjah and the College of Education in Abs. Thus, from its inception, the university comprised three colleges. In the 2013/2014 academic year, the College of Applied Sciences was separated from the College of Education to become an independent college, bringing the total number of colleges to four, in addition to the Center for Quality Assurance and Academic Development, which was established in 2014. The university continued its educational mission until the urgent need arose to meet the community's requirements by opening several scientific, research, service, and consulting centers. These include the Center for Research and Strategic Studies, the Center for Human Development, and the Training and Community Service Center, all of which were inaugurated in the 2016/2017 academic year. These centers will directly and indirectly benefit the university, students, the educational process, and the local community. This development was accompanied by the university leadership's recognition of the growing need for high-quality graduates. Consequently, the university's plan was developed to upgrade the Faculty of Education in Hajjah to become the Faculty of Education and Humanities, offering specialized academic programs required by the job market. The scientific, academic, and research development the university has witnessed in various disciplines over the past years is now bearing fruit with the opening of several master's programs in the Faculty of Education and Humanities. Hajjah University currently offers 30 accredited academic programs across its four faculties (Faculty of Education and Humanities, Faculty of Education in Abs, Faculty of Financial and Banking Sciences, and Faculty of Applied Sciences), including 26 bachelor's degree programs and 4 master's degree programs. The university is a member of the Association of Arab Universities, and has distinguished and close ties with various Yemeni, Arab and international universities
