Department of Plant Production

The department focuses on conducting studies, research, and applications to improve and develop the productivity of field crops, vegetables, and fruits using modern irrigation methods. It calculates the actual water requirements for each crop under varying environmental stress conditions in different agricultural regions. The department also trains local communities in various agricultural practices and agricultural processing. It comprises five specialized units: the Vegetable Unit, the Fruit Unit, the Crops Unit, and the Agricultural Processing Unit.

The department aims to conduct the following studies and research:

Conducting research and studies in the production of field and horticultural crops, medicinal and aromatic plants, and ornamental plants.

Conducting economic research and studies related to the marketing of field and horticultural crops, including market and consumer analysis and distribution channels.

Developing new varieties of agricultural crops with high yields and desirable characteristics.

Researching for crops or varieties with low water requirements and salinity resistance.

Utilizing production inputs such as water, fertilizers, and pesticides efficiently.

Preparing and training researchers and enhancing their scientific capabilities in agricultural research and the development of production methods.

Finding the most suitable methods for combating economically important agricultural pests.

Promoting organic farming.

Transferring technology and scientific knowledge that positively impacts production and quality.

Conducting economic research and studies related to examining the most significant production and marketing problems facing farmers in the governorates of the Republic of Yemen and finding appropriate solutions.

Utilizing modern and appropriate technologies to address the technical challenges of field and horticultural crop production.
