Historical Overview

This department was established as the nucleus of the College of Applied Sciences in the academic year 2005/2006, when the name of the "College of Education – Hajjah" was changed to the "College of Education and Applied Sciences – Hajjah." The department was inaugurated with a two-year Diploma specialization in Computer Science.

Currently, the department is undergoing a Higher Education Quality Improvement Project to develop the Bachelor of Computer Science program, for which enrollment began in the 2011/2012 academic year. The study plan, program specification document, course descriptions, and even the provision of laboratories and equipment are all executed by specialized committees according to the highest applicable standards, under the supervision of the Quality Education Improvement Team for the Computer Science Program.

The Computer Science Department strives to be a leader in the fields of computer science, academically and in research, at the local, regional, and global levels.

Mission

To provide high-quality education and a suitable environment, and to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and training. This empowers them to identify, use, and evaluate knowledge, information, scientific research, and innovation to serve the community and meet the requirements of the labor market.

Objectives

• Provide academic programs in the fields of Computer Science in accordance with local and international quality and academic accreditation standards.

• Provide a suitable academic environment, encourage scientific research and graduate studies, and attract distinguished faculty members while qualifying them academically, professionally, and in research.

• Supply the local and regional labor market with efficient and qualified cadres capable of building computer systems to solve problems after analyzing them, and selecting the optimal theoretical frameworks, tools, and technologies required for implementation.

• Strengthen partnerships with various sectors, provide consultations and scientific, technical, and applied services related to Computer Science fields, and contribute to training technical cadres to meet the requirements of the labor market.
